Continuous Fasting Prohibited by the Prophet (ﷺ)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) prohibited his Companions from observing continuous fasting without a break, as he was not like them and Allah had bestowed upon him the power of endurance.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet prohibited his Companions out of mercy for them, from observing continuous fasting without a break. They said: "But you observe fast continuously". He replied, "I am not like you. I spend the night while my Rabb provides me with food and drink". Al-Bukhari and Muslim. (This means that Allah has bestowed upon him the power of endurance like that of a person who eats and drinks).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful when fasting , Take care of one's body properly by eating enough food and drinking enough water during fasts , Be kind to oneself .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, it is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prohibited his companions from observing continuous fasting without a break. This prohibition was out of mercy for them, as they were not like him and did not have the same power of endurance that he did. It is said that Allah had bestowed upon him this power so that he could spend nights while being provided with food and drink. This means that even though he fasted often, it was never to an extent where it would cause harm to himself or weaken his body in any way. The lesson we can take away from this is to be mindful when fasting and ensure we are taking care of our bodies properly by eating enough food and drinking enough water during our fasts. We should also remember to be kind to ourselves when fasting; if we feel weak or tired then it's okay to take a break or stop altogether if needed.
