Increasing Reward Through Kindness

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised Maimuna bint Al-Harith (May Allah be pleased with her) to give the slave-girl she had freed to her maternal uncles, as it would increase her reward.

It has been narrated that Maimuna bint Al-Harith (May Allah be pleased with her) had set free a slave-girl without the Prophet's permission. When her turn came (the Prophet used to visit his wives in turns), she made mention of that to him saying, "Did you know I have set slave-girl free?" He said, "Have you, indeed?" She replied, "Yes". He then remarked, "Had you given her to your maternal uncles, you would have your reward increased". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of charity and kindness in Islam. It was narrated by Maimuna bint Al-Harith who had freed a slave girl without the permission of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. When he found out, he advised her that if she gave the slave girl to her maternal uncles, it would increase her reward from Allah SWT. This teaches us that even small acts of kindness can be rewarded greatly by Allah SWT if done with good intentions and for His pleasure alone. Furthermore, this hadith also encourages us to help our family members whenever we can as it will bring us closer to Allah SWT and increase our rewards in both worlds.
