The Best Rulers

SUMMARY: The best rulers are those who love and are loved by their people, and those who pray for each other. It is not necessary to oppose them as long as they establish prayer in the community.

'Auf bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "The best of your rulers are those whom you love and who love you, and those who supplicate Allah in your favour and you supplicate Allah in their favour. The worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and who hate you; and whom you curse and who curse you". It was asked (by those who were present): "Should not we oppose them?" He said, "No, as long as they establish Salat; as long as they establish Salat in your midst". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of having good rulers in a society. According to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the best rulers are those whom people love and who love them back, and those who pray for each other's well-being. He also said that it is not necessary to oppose such rulers as long as they establish prayer in the community. This hadith teaches us that it is important to have leaders that care about their people, respect them, and look out for their welfare. It also encourages us to be thankful for good leaders even if we don't agree with all of their decisions or policies because they still provide an important service by establishing prayer in our midst.
