Sahih al-Bukhari 5305 (Book 68, Hadith 54) #5083
Inheritance of Color in Children

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that the color of a child can be inherited from their parents.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to the Prophet and said, "O Allah's Messenger ! A black child has been born for me". The Prophet asked him, "Have you got camels?" The man said, "Yes". The Prophet asked him, "What color are they?" The man replied, "Red". The Prophet said, "Is there a grey one among them?' The man replied, "Yes". The Prophet said, "Whence comes that?" He said, "May be it is because of heredity". The Prophet said, "May be your latest son has this color because of heredity".

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat all people equally regardless of their physical characteristics or background. Respect everyone's differences and understand where they come from. Show kindness towards others no matter what they look like or where they come from.

EXPLANATIONS:
When a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and told him that he had a black child, the Prophet asked him if he had any camels. When the man said yes, the Prophet asked what color they were. The man replied that some were red and some were grey. The Prophet then suggested that this could be due to heredity, meaning that it was possible for children to inherit certain traits from their parents. This hadith teaches us about how traits such as skin color can be passed down through generations and is an important reminder of how we should treat all people equally regardless of their physical characteristics or background.
