Taking Property in a Reasonable Manner

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised Hind (bint 'Utba) to take from Abu Sufyan's property in a reasonable manner for her and her children's needs.

Narrated 'Aisha: Hind (bint 'Utba) said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Abu Sufyan is a miser. Is there any harm if I take of his property what will cover me and my children's needs?" The Prophet said, "Take (according to your needs) in a reasonable manner".

QUICK LESSONS:
Take only what you need in a reasonable manner

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about taking property from someone else in a reasonable manner. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked by Hind bint Utba if it was permissible to take some of Abu Sufyan’s property, which would cover the needs of herself and her children. The Prophet ﷺ replied that it was permissible to do so, but only in a reasonable manner. This hadith teaches us that we should not be greedy when taking something from someone else, even if they are wealthy or have more than enough for themselves. We should always be mindful of how much we are taking and make sure that it is not too much or too little for our needs. It also teaches us the importance of being generous with others who may not have as much as we do, especially those who are close to us such as family members or friends.
