Sahih al-Bukhari 5604 (Book 74, Hadith 30) #5379
Doubts About Fasting on the Day of 'Arafat

SUMMARY: The people were uncertain if the Prophet Muhammad was fasting on the Day of 'Arafat, so Um Al-Fadl sent him a cup of milk and he drank it.

Narrated Um Al-Fadl: The people doubted whether Allah's Messenger was fasting or the Day of 'Arafat or not. So I sent a cup containing milk to him and he drank it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek clarification when unsure about something; Be courteous and respectful towards others in our daily lives; Accept food from others out of politeness and respect for them.

EXPLANATIONS:
On the Day of 'Arafat, there was some confusion among people as to whether or not Prophet Muhammad was fasting. To confirm this, Um Al-Fadl sent him a cup containing milk and he drank it. This hadith teaches us that we should always seek clarification when we are unsure about something instead of making assumptions or jumping to conclusions. It also shows us that even though Prophet Muhammad was fasting, he still accepted food from others out of politeness and respect for them. We can learn from this example to be courteous and respectful towards others in our daily lives as well.
