The Power of Pious Shyness

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that one of the sayings of the early Prophets is to be ashamed and not do anything wrong.

Narrated Abu Mas'ud: The Prophet said, 'One of the sayings of the early Prophets which the people have got is: If you don't feel ashamed (from Haya': pious shyness from committing religious indiscretions) do whatever you like".

QUICK LESSONS:
Think twice before doing something wrong; Act with integrity; Respect others; Bring honor upon yourself and your family.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of having a sense of shame or haya'. It is a quality that all prophets have encouraged in their followers. It means to be shy and embarrassed when doing something wrong or inappropriate, especially when it comes to religious matters. This hadith encourages us to think twice before we do something wrong, as it will bring shame upon ourselves and our families. We should strive to always act with integrity and respect for others, even if no one else is watching. Doing so will bring honor upon ourselves and our families, rather than disgrace.
