Prayer for Going to the Lavatory

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) used to recite a prayer when going to the lavatory.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Whenever the Prophet went to the lavatory, he used to say: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-khubuthi wal khaba'ith".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَرْعَرَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْخَلاَءَ قَالَ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik tells us that whenever the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went to the lavatory, he would recite a prayer. This prayer is known as “Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-khubuthi wal khaba'ith” which translates into “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all offensive and wicked things”. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our actions and habits, even when doing something as mundane as using the lavatory. We should always remember that Allah is watching over us and we should strive to do our best in all aspects of life, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. It also teaches us about cleanliness and hygiene which are important values for Muslims to uphold.
