Sahih Muslim 89 (Book 1, Hadith 168) #7433
Avoiding Seven Noxious Things

SUMMARY: This hadith is about avoiding seven noxious things which are associating anything with Allah, magic, killing without a just cause, consuming the property of an orphan, consuming usury, turning back when the army advances and slandering chaste women who are believers.

It is reported on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah observed: Avoid the seven noxious things. It was said (by the hearers): What are they, Messenger of Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Associating anything with Allah, magic, killing of one whom God has declared inviolate without a just cause, consuming the property of an orphan, and consuming of usury, turning back when the army advances, and slandering chaste women who are believers, but unwary.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about avoiding seven noxious things which are associating anything with Allah, magic, killing without a just cause, consuming the property of an orphan, consuming usury, turning back when the army advances and slandering chaste women who are believers. These seven acts have been declared as haram by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Associating anything with Allah means to worship any other thing or person besides Him. Magic is using supernatural powers for evil purposes like harming someone or making them do something against their will. Killing someone without a just cause means taking away someone’s life unjustly which is forbidden in Islam. Consuming the property of an orphan means taking away what belongs to them without their permission or consent which is also not allowed in Islam as it deprives them from their rights. Usury refers to lending money at interest rates which has been prohibited in Islam as it leads to exploitation of people who cannot afford it financially. Turning back when the army advances implies that one should not run away from battle field out of fear but rather face it bravely even if they know they might lose because this shows courage and faith in God’s will that He will protect them if He wills so . Lastly slandering chaste women who are believers implies that one should not spread false rumors about anyone especially those who have faith in God because this can lead to great harm for both parties involved .
