Sahih Muslim 103a (Book 1, Hadith 191) #7456
Not Part of the Ummah

SUMMARY: This hadith emphasizes that those who beat their cheeks, tear their clothes, and utter the slogans of pre-Islamic times are not part of the Ummah of Islam.

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Prophet observed: He is not one of us (one among the Ummah of Islam) who beat the cheeks or tore the front opening of the shirt or uttered the slogans of (the days of) Jahiliya (ignorance). Ibn Numair and Abu Bakr said (instead of the word" au" (or) it is" wa" and the words are) and tore and uttered (the slogans) of Jahiliya without" alif".

Be kind to one another & avoid any actions or words that would cause harm or distress to others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abdullah b. Mas'ud and it emphasizes that those who beat their cheeks, tear their clothes, and utter the slogans of pre-Islamic times are not part of the Ummah of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to be kind to one another and to refrain from any actions or words that would cause harm or distress to others. He also taught us that we should not take part in activities associated with pre-Islamic times such as beating our cheeks or tearing our clothes in grief as these were practices done during ignorance before Islam was revealed. We should instead strive for peace and harmony within our communities by avoiding such practices which can lead to chaos and disorder.
