Sahih Muslim 108c (Book 1, Hadith 205) #7470
Breaking Oaths and its Consequences

SUMMARY: Allah will not speak to or look at those who break their oaths on the goods of a Muslim.

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that he (the Messenger of Allah) observed: Three are the persons with whom Allah would neither speak (on the Day of Resurrection) nor would He look at them, and there would be a painful chastisement for them, a person who took an oath on the goods of a Muslim in the afternoon and then broke it. The rest of the hadith is the same as narrated by A'mash.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully before making any promises or taking any oaths in order to avoid such consequences. Keep your promises and do not break your word when it comes to another person's property or belongings. Be honest with others and yourself when making commitments or agreements with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of breaking an oath on the goods of a Muslim. It has been narrated by Abu Huraira and A'mash that Allah will neither speak nor look at those who break their oaths on the goods of a Muslim. This means that they will be severely punished for this act and it is something to be avoided at all costs. The punishment for breaking an oath can be very severe so it is important to think carefully before making any promises or taking any oaths in order to avoid such consequences.
