Sahih al-Bukhari 912 (Book 11, Hadith 36) #882
Changes in Adhan for Jumua Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith explains how the Adhan for Jumua prayer was changed during the Caliphate of Uthman due to an increase in Muslim population.

Narrated As-Saib bin Yazid: In the lifetime of the Prophet, Abu Bakr and 'Umar, the Adhan for the Jumua prayer used to be pronounced when the Imam sat on the pulpit. But during the Caliphate of 'Uthman when the Muslims increased in number, a third Adhan at Az-Zaura' was added. Abu 'Abdullah said, "Az-Zaura' is a place in the market of Medina".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be flexible & adjust according to changing circumstances while still adhering Islamic teachings & values

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how the call to prayer or Adhan for Friday prayer or Jumu'ah was changed during the time of Uthman ibn Affan's caliphate. During the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr and Umar's caliphate, only one call to prayer was made when Imam sat on pulpit. However, due to an increase in Muslim population during Uthman's caliphate a third call at Az-Zaura' was added. Az-Zaura' is a place in market of Medina city. This change shows that Muslims should be flexible and adjust according to changing circumstances while still adhering to Islamic teachings and values.
