Sahih al-Bukhari 1597 (Book 25, Hadith 83) #1534
Following in the Footsteps of the Prophet

SUMMARY: Umar kissed the Black Stone, even though he knew it was just a stone, because he had seen the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) do it.

Narrated 'Abis bin Rabi'a: 'Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah's Messenger kissing you I would not have kissed you".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about how Umar ibn Al Khattab followed in the footsteps of The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Even though Umar knew that kissing a stone would not benefit or harm anyone, he still did it because he saw The Prophet do it first. This teaches us to follow and emulate our beloved prophet ﷺ in all aspects of life, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. We should strive to be like him and take his example as our own so that we can live our lives according to Allah's will and guidance.
