Fasting in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad advised Abdullah bin Amr to fast one day of the month, and when Abdullah said he could do more, the Prophet advised him to fast two days, then three days and finally four days. The best fasting is the fasting of Dawud who used to fast one day and not the next. Abu Dharr was also advised by the Prophet Muhammad to pray Duha, Witr before sleeping and to fast three days of each month.

'Abdullah bin Amr said: "The Messenger of Allah said to me: 'Fast one day of the month and you will have the reward of what is left'. I said: 'I am able to do more than that'. He said: 'Fast two days and you will have the reward of what is left'. I said: 'I am able to do more than that'. He said: 'Fast three days and you will have the reward of what is left'. I said: 'I am able to do more than that'. He said: 'Fast four days and you will have the reward of what is left'. I said: ' I am able to do more than that'. The messenger of Allah said: 'The best fasting is the fast of Dawud; he used to fast one day and not the next"'. 2406. It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: "My beloved Prophet advised me to do three things which I will never give up, if Allah wills. He advised me to pray Duha to pray Witr before sleeping, and to fast three days of each month".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for excellence in your worship practices such as prayer & fasting; be consistent rather than overburdening yourself with too many acts all at once without proper rest or breaks between them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about fasting in Islam which is an important part of a Muslim's life. It teaches us that we should strive for excellence in our worship by increasing our acts of worship as much as possible. The Prophet Muhammad advised Abdullah bin Amar to start with one day of fasting per month but when he said he could do more, the Prophet increased it up until four days per month. He also mentioned that the best form of fasting is that which was practiced by prophet Dawood who used to fast one day and not on another day. Abu Dharr was also given similar advice from the prophet Muhammad regarding prayer; praying Duha prayer before sunrise, praying witr before sleeping at night and fasting three days every month. These teachings are important for Muslims as they help us increase our faithfulness towards Allah SWT while still being mindful about not overburdening ourselves with too many acts of worship at once so we can maintain consistency throughout our lives instead of burning out quickly due to overexertion or exhaustion from too much religious practice all at once without proper rest or breaks in between them .
