Fasting on the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth of Al-Bid

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad advised a Bedouin to fast on the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth of Al-Bid.

It was narrated that Ibn Al-Hawtakiyyah said: "Ubayy said: 'A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah, and he had a rabbit that he had grilled and some bread. He placed it before the Prophet then he said: "I found it bleeding". The Messenger of Allah said to his Companions: "It doesn't matter; eat". And he said to the Bedouin: "Eat," He said: "I am fasting". He said: "If you want to fast then you should fast the shining days of Al-Bid: The thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth".
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ بَكْرٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْحَوْتَكِيَّةِ، قَالَ قَالَ أُبَىٌّ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَمَعَهُ أَرْنَبٌ قَدْ شَوَاهَا وَخُبْزٌ فَوَضَعَهَا بَيْنَ يَدَىِ النَّبِيِّ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي وَجَدْتُهَا تَدْمَى ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لأَصْحَابِهِ ‏"‏ لاَ يَضُرُّ كُلُوا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَقَالَ لِلأَعْرَابِيِّ ‏"‏ كُلْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ صَوْمُ مَاذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ صَوْمُ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِنْ كُنْتَ صَائِمًا فَعَلَيْكَ بِالْغُرِّ الْبِيضِ ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ وَأَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ وَخَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الصَّوَابُ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ وَيُشْبِهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ وَقَعَ مِنَ الْكُتَّابِ ذَرٌّ فَقِيلَ أُبَىٌّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a Bedouin who came to the Prophet Muhammad with a grilled rabbit and some bread. He told the Prophet that he found it bleeding, but the Prophet said that it was alright for them to eat. The Bedouin then mentioned that he was fasting, so the Prophet advised him to fast on three days in particular -the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteeth of al Bid. This hadith teaches us about fasting during certain days as well as being mindful of what we consume when we are fasting. It also shows us how kind and understanding the Prophet was towards others even if they were not Muslim or part of his community. We can learn from this hadith that we should be respectful towards people regardless of their background or beliefs while also being mindful about our own actions such as what we eat when fasting.
