Fasting on Three Days of Al-Bid

SUMMARY: The Prophet advised a man to fast on the three days of Al-Bid, the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.

It was narrated from Musa bin Talhah that: a man brought a rabbit to the Prophet, and the prophet stretched out his hand toward it, then the one who had brought it said: "I saw some blood on it," So the Prophet drew his hand back, but he told the people to eat. Among the people there was a man who held back. The Prophet said: "What is the matter with you?" He said: "I am fasting". The Prophet said to him: "Why don't you fast on the three days of Al-Bid, the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth?"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fasting during the three days of al-bid. The Prophet Muhammad was asked by a man if he could fast while he was holding a rabbit in his hand. The Prophet said that he saw some blood on it and so he drew his hand back. He then told everyone else to eat it but one man held back because he was fasting. When asked why, the man replied that he was fasting and so the Prophet advised him to fast on the three days of al-bid which are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth day of each month in Islamic calendar. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful when eating food as we don't know what is permissible or not according to Islamic law. It also teaches us that we should be mindful when fasting as there are certain times where it is more beneficial for us to do so such as during these three days of al-bid each month in Islamic calendar. Lastly, this hadith reminds us that even though we may have good intentions with our actions, sometimes they can still lead to undesirable outcomes if not done properly or with caution.
