The Essential Teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us that performing wudu is half of faith, praising Allah fills the balance, saying tasbih and takbir fill the heavens and Earth, prayer is light, zakat is a sign of sincerity, patience is an illuminating torch and the Quran is proof for or against us.

It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Ghanm that Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari told him that the Messenger of Allah said: "Isbagh Al-Wudu is half of faith; Alhamdu lillah (praise be to Allah) fills the balance; the Tasbih and the Takbir fill the heavens and Earth; the Salah is light; the Zakah is a sign (of sincerity); patience is an illuminating torch; and the Qur'an is proof, either for you or against you".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us many important values that we should strive to live by in our daily lives. Firstly, it tells us that performing wudhu correctly is half of faith - this means that if we want to be true believers in Allah then we must take care to perform our ablutions properly before each prayer. Secondly, it reminds us to always praise Allah - this can be done through reciting dhikr such as “Alhamdu lillah” which will fill up our scales on judgement day with good deeds. Thirdly, it encourages us to say “tasbeeh” and “takbeer” which will fill up the heavens and earth with blessings from Allah. Fourthly, it tells us that prayer brings light into our lives - when we pray regularly not only do we feel closer to God but also gain spiritual guidance from Him which helps guide our decisions in life. Fifthly, it reminds us about zakat - giving charity regularly shows sincerity towards God as well as helping those less fortunate than ourselves who need assistance financially or otherwise. Sixthly, patience is an illuminating torch - having patience during difficult times allows one to stay focused on their goals without getting distracted by negative emotions such as anger or sadness which can cloud judgement and lead one astray from their path towards righteousness. Lastly but most importantly this hadith teaches us about the importance of reading the Quran - not only does reading its verses bring peace into one's heart but also serves as a reminder for how one should live their life according to Islamic teachings so they may receive God's mercy on judgement day.
