Charity and Small Amounts of Food

SUMMARY: No charity is required for small amounts of food.

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al_khudri that the Prophet said: "No sadaqah is due on less than five Awaq, no Sadaqah is due on less than five Dhawd, no Sadaqah is due on less than five Awsuq".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your wealth; Think carefully about how much you can afford to give away; Make a difference through small acts of kindness

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about charity and the amount of food that requires it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that no charity is due on less than five Awaq, no Sadaqah is due on less than five Dhawd, and no Sadaqah is due on less than five Awsuq. This means that if someone has a small amount of food such as five or fewer Awaq, Dhawd or Awsuqs then they do not have to give any charity for it. This hadith teaches us to be generous with our wealth but also to be mindful of how much we are giving away in terms of charity. It encourages us to think carefully about how much we can afford to give away without putting ourselves in financial difficulty. It also reminds us that even small acts of kindness can make a difference in the lives of those around us.
