Paying Zakatul-Fitr in Ramadan

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commanded Muslims to pay Zakatul-Fitr at the end of Ramadan, which is a Sa' of dates or barley for every Muslim regardless of their gender, age or social status.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that: the Messenger of Allah enjoined Zakatul-Fitr at the end of Ramadan upon the people; a Sa' of dates or a Sa' of barley, upon everyone, free or slave, male or female, of the Muslims.

QUICK LESSONS:
Paying Zakatul-Fitr at the end of Ramadan

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar states that the Prophet Muhammad commanded Muslims to pay Zakatul-Fitr at the end of Ramadan. This charity is an obligation upon all Muslims regardless of their gender, age or social status. It is a Sa' which is equivalent to four double handfuls and can be paid in either dates or barley. This act serves as a purification for those who fasted during the month and it also helps those who are less fortunate by providing them with food on Eid day.
