The Commandment of Sadaqatul Fitr

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commanded that Sadaqatul Fitr should be given by all people regardless of age, gender, or status.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah enjoined Sadaqatul Fitr upon young and old, male and female, free and slave; a Sa' of dates or a Sa' of barley,"
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عِيسَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ فَرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَدَقَةَ الْفِطْرِ عَلَى الصَّغِيرِ وَالْكَبِيرِ وَالذَّكَرِ وَالأُنْثَى وَالْحُرِّ وَالْعَبْدِ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ

The hadith narrated by Ibn 'Umar states that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) commanded the giving of Sadaqatul Fitr. It can be given in the form of dates or barley and is meant to help those who are less fortunate than us. This hadith teaches us to be generous and kind towards others even if we have little ourselves.
