Sunan an-Nasai 2551 (Book 23, Hadith 117) #17162
The Virtue of Charity

SUMMARY: Giving charity is encouraged and withholding it will lead to Allah withholding provision from you.

It was narrated from Asma' bint Abi Bakr that she came to the Prophet and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I do not have anything but that which Az-Zubair brings to me. Is there any sin on me if I give a small amount of that which he brings to me?" He said: Give whatever you can, and do not withhold what you have, lest Allah withhold provision from you".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity generously according to one's capacity.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages us to give charity, or sadaqah, as much as we can. It teaches us that generosity is a virtue and that we should not withhold what we have, for if we do so, Allah may withhold His provision from us. We should be generous with our wealth and possessions in order to gain the pleasure of Allah. This hadith also reminds us that even if our resources are limited, whatever little we can give in charity will still be accepted by Allah.
