Sunan an-Nasai 2567 (Book 23, Hadith 133) #17178
Seeking Refuge & Repaying Favors

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to seek refuge in Allah, give to those who ask of us in the name of Allah, protect those who seek protection from us in the name of Allah, and if we cannot repay a favor done for us then we should pray for them until we think that we have repaid them.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever seeks refuge with (the name of) Allah, grant him refuge; whoever asks of you in (the name of) Allah, give him; whoever seeks protection with (the name of Allah, give him protection. Whoever does you a favor, then reciprocate, and if you cannot, then supplicate for him until you think that you have repaid him"'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us many important values about how to treat others and how to interact with people. Firstly, it tells us that when someone is seeking refuge or help from something or someone, then it is our duty as Muslims to grant them this refuge or help. Secondly, if someone asks something from you in the name of God then it is our duty as Muslims to give them what they are asking for. Thirdly, if someone seeks protection from you in the name of God then it is our duty as Muslims to protect them and keep them safe. Fourthly, if somebody does a favor for you then it is your responsibility as a Muslim to reciprocate this favor by doing something nice back for them; however if this isn’t possible due to any reason then one should supplicate on their behalf until they feel like they have repaid their debt towards that person. These teachings remind us that no matter what situation we are faced with; whether good or bad; always remember God and His teachings so that He can guide our actions accordingly.
