Sunan an-Nasai 2573 (Book 23, Hadith 139) #17184
The Definition of True Poverty

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that a person who is truly poor is not the one who leaves after receiving a few morsels or dates, but rather someone who does not have enough to sustain themselves and whose need is unknown to others.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "The poor man (Miskin) is not the one who leaves if you give him a morsel or two, or a date or two". They said: "Then who is the Miskin, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "The one who does not possess independence of means, and the people do not know of his need, so that they could give him charity".

QUICK LESSONS:
Look out for those in our community who may be struggling financially but are too proud or embarrassed to ask for help; Provide assistance whenever we can so that everyone has access basic necessities like food , shelter , clothing etc., regardless of their financial situation .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the true definition of poverty. It teaches us that poverty is not just about having little money or resources; it's also about being in need and having no one to turn to for help. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that a person can be considered poor if they do not possess independence of means and their need is unknown to others. This means that even if someone has some money or resources, they can still be considered poor if they don't have enough for their needs and no one knows about it so they can't receive help from others. This hadith encourages us to look out for those in our community who may be struggling financially but are too proud or embarrassed to ask for help. We should strive to provide assistance whenever we can so that everyone has access to basic necessities like food, shelter, clothing etc., regardless of their financial situation.
