SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) swore an oath of abstention from his wives for a month, but it ended up being only twenty-nine days.

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Prophet swore an oath of abstention from his wives for a month and stayed in his room for twenty-nine days. It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, did you not swear an oath of abstention for a month?' He said: 'This month is twenty-nine days'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to be pious and devoted without going beyond what is permissible in Islam .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known to be very devoted to Allah and His teachings. He would often take oaths of abstention in order to increase his devotion and piety. In this hadith, it is narrated that the Prophet took an oath of abstention from his wives for a month, but it ended up being only twenty-nine days. This shows us that even though the Prophet was devoted to Allah and His teachings, he still respected the limits set by Him and did not overstep them. This teaches us that we should strive to be pious and devoted without going beyond what is permissible in Islam. We should also remember that Allah knows best what is good for us and we should trust in His wisdom when making decisions about our lives.
