Sunan an-Nasai 3457 (Book 27, Hadith 69) #18069
The Consequences of Zihar

SUMMARY: A man declared Zihar on his wife, then had intercourse with her before offering the expiation. The Prophet advised him to not approach her until he has done what Allah commanded.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that a man came to the Prophet who had declared Zihar from his wife, then he had intercourse with her. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I declared Zihar on my wife, then I had intercourse with her before I offered the expiation". He said: "What made you do that, may Allah have mercy on you?" He said: "I saw her anklets in the light of the moon". He said: "Do not approach her until you have done that which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has commanded".

QUICK LESSONS:
Think twice before taking any action; Follow commands of God; Take responsibility for your actions; Be careful when making decisions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man who declared Zihar on his wife, which is a form of divorce in Islam. He then had intercourse with her before offering the expiation for it. When he told this to the Prophet, he asked him why he did that and advised him not to approach her until he has done what Allah commanded. This teaches us that we should be careful when making decisions and think twice before taking any action as it can have serious consequences if we do not follow what Allah has commanded us to do. We should also remember that our actions have consequences and must take responsibility for them instead of trying to find excuses or blaming others for our mistakes.
