Sunan an-Nasai 5393 (Book 49, Hadith 15) #19925
Performing Hajj on Behalf of an Elderly Parent

SUMMARY: A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) if he could perform Hajj on behalf of his elderly father who was unable to do so himself. The Prophet (PBUH) replied that if the man would pay off a debt for his father, then he should also perform Hajj on his behalf.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas that: A man asked the Messenger of Allah SAW: "The (command to perform) Hajj has come while my father is an old man and cannot sit firmly in the saddle, and if I tie him, I fear that he may die. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Do you think that if he owed a debt you would pay it off for him?" He said: "Yes". He said: "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father".
