Supplicating at the End of Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaching his companion Muslim bin Abi Bakrah to recite a supplication at the end of prayer.

Muslim - meaning bin Abi Bakrah - narrated that: He heard his father say following the prayer: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kufri wal-faqri, wa 'adhabil-qabri (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Kufr, poverty and the torment of the grave)" I started to recite them and he said: "O my son, where did you learn these words?" I said: "O my father, I heard you saying this supplication at the end of the prayer, and I learned them from you". He said: "Continue to recite them, O my son, for the Prophet of Allah SAW used to say this supplication at the end of the prayer".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of reciting supplications after prayer. It was narrated by Muslim bin Abi Bakrah, who heard his father say a certain supplication after prayer and asked him where he learned it from. His father replied that he learned it from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The supplication was “Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kufri wal-faqri, wa 'adhabil-qabri” which translates to “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Kufr, poverty and the torment of the grave”. This hadith teaches us that we should always make du'a or supplications after our prayers as this is something that Prophet Muhammad himself did and encouraged others to do as well. We should also be mindful when learning new things so we can ensure they are authentic and true teachings from Islam.
