EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about seeking refuge in Allah from various difficulties and hardships that one may face in life. The Prophet Muhammad [SAW] taught Mus’ab bin Sa’d to recite these words as a prayer for protection against miserliness, cowardice, senility, trials of this world and torment of the grave. Miserliness is being too stingy or not wanting to spend money on things that are necessary or important. Cowardice is being afraid or scared when faced with danger or difficulty. Senility refers to old age where one may become weak and unable to take care of oneself properly. Trials refer to difficult situations that test our faith such as poverty, illness etc., while torment refers to punishment after death for those who have done wrong deeds during their lifetime on earth. Therefore, by reciting this prayer we can seek protection from all these difficulties by relying on Allah alone for help and guidance throughout our lives here on earth as well as hereafter in the afterlife.
