Seeking Refuge with Allah During Travel

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) sought refuge from Allah when travelling, to protect himself from the hardships of travel, sorrows of return, loss after plenty, supplication of the wronged and calamities.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Sarjis said: "When the Prophet SAW traveled, he would seek refuge with Allah from the hardships of travel, and the sorrows of return, from loss after plenty, from the supplication of the one who has been wronged, and from seeing some calamity befall".
أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ إِذَا سَافَرَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ وَالْحَوْرِ بَعْدَ الْكَوْرِ وَدَعْوَةِ الْمَظْلُومِ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Abdullah bin Sarjis speaks about the importance of seeking refuge with Allah during travel. It is reported that whenever Prophet Muhammad (SAW) traveled he would seek refuge with Allah from the hardships and sorrows associated with it. He also sought protection against loss after plenty, supplications of those who have been wronged and calamities that may befall him. This hadith teaches us to always turn to Allah in times of difficulty and hardship as He is our protector and guardian in all matters. We should also remember Him in times of ease so that we can remain humble and grateful for His blessings upon us.
