Seeking Refuge with Allah

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge with Allah from the trials of life and death.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW said: "A'udhu billahi min 'adhabi jahannama, wa a'udhu billahi min 'adhabil-qabri, wa a'udhu billahi min sharril-masihid-dajjali, wa a'udhu billahi min sharri fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat (I seek refuge with Allah from the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of the trials of life and death)'"
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abu Hurairah, a companion of Prophet Muhammad [SAW]. In this hadith, the Prophet [SAW] is teaching us to seek refuge in Allah from the trials of life and death. He teaches us to say “A’udhu billahi min ‘adhabi jahannama, wa a’udhu billahi min ‘adhabil-qabri, wa a’udhu billahi min sharril-masihid-dajjali, wa a’udhu billahi min sharri fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat" which translates to "I seek refuge with Allah from the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of Dajjal, and I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of trials in life and death". This hadith encourages us to turn towards God for protection when we are faced with difficult situations. It reminds us that no matter what happens in our lives or after our deaths we should always have faith that God will protect us if we turn towards Him.
