Seeking Refuge From Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith is about seeking refuge from Allah from the evil of what one has done and not done.

It was narrated that Farwah bin Nawfal said: "I asked 'Aishah: 'Tell me of something that the Messenger of Allah SAW used to say in his supplication'. She said: 'The Messenger of Allah SAW used to say: Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal ba'd (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done and from the evil of what I have not done)'"
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ هِلاَلِ بْنِ يِسَافٍ، عَنْ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ فَقُلْتُ حَدِّثِينِي بِشَىْءٍ، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَدْعُو بِهِ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of seeking refuge with Allah from the evil that one has done and not done. It was narrated by Farwah bin Nawfal, who asked 'Aishah to tell him something that the Messenger of Allah used to say in his supplication. She said that he used to say “Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal ba'd” which translates to “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done and from the evil of what I have not done”. This supplication is an important reminder for us all to seek protection and forgiveness from our Lord for any wrongdoings we may have committed or failed to commit. It serves as a reminder for us all that we should always strive towards doing good deeds and avoiding bad ones in order to be closer to our Creator.
