Sunan Abi Dawud 214 (Book 1, Hadith 214) #20505
Taking a Bath After Sexual Intercourse

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) initially allowed people to not take a bath after sexual intercourse if they had no seminal emission, but later on he commanded them to take a bath in such cases and prohibited its omission.

Ubayy b. Ka’b reported : The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) made a concession in the early days of Islam on account of the paucity of clothes that one should not take a bath if one has sexual intercourse (and has no seminal emission). But later on her commanded to take a bath in such a case and prohibited its omission.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take a bath after sexual intercourse regardless of whether there is seminal emission or not .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the commandment of taking a bath after sexual intercourse. In the early days of Islam, due to lack of resources, it was permissible for people not to take a bath if they did not have any seminal emission. However, later on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) commanded them to take a bath in such cases and prohibited its omission. This teaches us that we should always strive for cleanliness and purity even when resources are scarce or limited. It also shows us that we should always follow the commands of Allah and His Messenger even if it is difficult or inconvenient at times as this will bring us closer to Allah's pleasure and reward in this life and hereafter.
