Sunan Abi Dawud 1478 (Book 8, Hadith 63) #21770
Reading the Quran in Seven Harfs

SUMMARY: Allah commanded the Prophet to make his community read the Quran in seven harfs, and whatever mode they read it in will be correct.

Ubayy b. Ka'b said: The Prophet was present at the pool of Banu Ghifar, Gabriel came to him and said: "Allah has commanded you to make your community read (the Qur'an) in one harf. He (the Prophet) said: 'I beg Allah His pardon and forgiveness; my community has not strength to do so'. He then came for the second time and told him the same thing till he reached up to seven harfs. Finally, he said: 'Allah has commanded you to make your community read (the Qur'an) in seven harfs; in whichever mode they read, that will be correct.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God's commands, Strive your best to fulfill tasks given by Him
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of a time when Allah commanded Prophet Muhammad to make his community recite the Quran in one harf. The Prophet asked for forgiveness from Allah as he knew that his community would not have enough strength to do so. However, Gabriel came back multiple times with the same command until it reached seven harfs, which was something that could be done by the people of Muhammad's community. This hadith teaches us that no matter how difficult a task may seem, if it is something that has been commanded by Allah then we should strive our best to fulfill it and trust that He will help us along the way. It also shows us how important reading and understanding of scripture is for Muslims as this was an order given directly from God Himself.
