Sunan Abi Dawud 1483 (Book 8, Hadith 68) #21775
Firmness in Supplication

SUMMARY: We should be firm in our supplications to Allah and not leave it up to His will.

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah as saying: "One of you should not say (in his supplication): O Allah, forgive me if You please, show mercy to me if You please'. Rather, be firm in your asking, for no one can force Him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith when making supplications to Allah and ask firmly for what you need.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of being firm when making supplications to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that we should not make supplications with a wishy-washy attitude, such as saying "O Allah, forgive me if You please, show mercy to me if You please." Instead, we should have faith that our prayers will be answered and ask firmly for what we need. This hadith teaches us that no one can force Allah's will; He is the All-Powerful and All-Knowing Creator who knows what is best for us. We must trust Him and have faith that He will answer our prayers in the best way possible.
