Sunan Abi Dawud 1485 (Book 8, Hadith 70) #21777
Supplication Etiquette

SUMMARY: Supplicate Allah with the palms of your hands and do not cover the walls. Do not look at someone else's letter without permission.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet said: Do not cover the walls. He who sees the letter of his brother without his permission, sees Hell-fire. Supplicate Allah with the palms of your hands; do not supplicate Him with their backs upwards. When you finish supplication, wipe your faces with them. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted through a different chains by Muhammad b. Ka'b; all of them are weak. The chain I have narrated is best of them; but it is also weak.

QUICK LESSONS:
Face towards Allah when making du'a , Ask for permission before looking at someone else's letter .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the etiquette of supplication to Allah. We should always make sure to face Him when we are making du'a, and use our hands in a respectful manner by keeping them open and facing upwards. Additionally, we should never look at someone else's letter without their permission as it is disrespectful and can lead to punishment in Hell-fire. We must always remember that Allah is watching us, so it is important that we show respect for Him and for others around us.

Furthermore, this hadith also reminds us of the importance of privacy; even if something belongs to another person, we must still ask for their permission before looking at it or using it in any way. This shows respect for other people’s belongings as well as their privacy which is an important value that all Muslims should strive to uphold in their daily lives.
