Seeking Refuge from Unbeneficial Knowledge and Unanswered Prayers

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked Allah for protection from four things: knowledge that does not benefit, a heart that is not humble, an insatiable soul, and unanswered prayers.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Messenger of Allah used to say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from four things: Knowledge which does not profit, a heart which is not submissive, a soul which has an insatiable appetite, and a supplication which is not heard".

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaches us to seek refuge in Allah from four things. The first is knowledge which does not benefit us. This means that we should strive to learn beneficial knowledge and avoid wasting our time on unimportant information. The second is a heart which is not submissive or humble. We should always strive to be humble before Allah and remember His greatness at all times. The third thing we should seek refuge from is an insatiable appetite or desire for worldly pleasures such as food, money, power etc., as these can lead us astray if we are not careful. Lastly, the Prophet Muhammad taught us to seek refuge in Allah from unanswered prayers or supplications; reminding us of the importance of having faith in Him and trusting Him even when our prayers seem unanswered.
