The Wrongness of Hoarding Food

SUMMARY: Hoarding up food to sell it at a high price is wrong.

Narrated Ya'la ibn Umayyah: The Prophet said: Hoarding up food (to sell it at a high price) in the sacred territory is a deviation (from right to wrong).
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَارَةُ بْنُ ثَوْبَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ بَاذَانَ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ يَعْلَى بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ احْتِكَارُ الطَّعَامِ فِي الْحَرَمِ إِلْحَادٌ فِيهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that hoarding up food in order to sell it at a higher price is wrong. It is considered a deviation from the right path and should be avoided. We should not hoard food or any other item in order to make money off of it, but instead we should be generous with what we have and share with those who are in need.
