Sunan Abi Dawud 3898 (Book 29, Hadith 44) #24188
The Power of Dua

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the power of reciting a dua to protect oneself from harm.

Narrated AbuSalih Zakwan as-Samman: A man from Aslam tribe said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah . A man from among his Companions came and said: Messenger of Allah! I have been stung last night, and I could not sleep till morning. He asked: What was that? He replied: A scorpion. He said: Oh, had you said in the evening: "I take refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created," nothing would have harmed you, Allah willing.

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek refuge in Allah's words when faced with danger or difficulty. Trust God's protection over any other form of protection you may seek out.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the power of supplication and how it can be used to protect oneself from harm. It was narrated by AbuSalih Zakwan as-Samman, who reported that a man from Aslam tribe said he was stung by a scorpion and could not sleep until morning. The Prophet Muhammad then told him that if he had said "I take refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created," nothing would have harmed him, Allah willing. This teaches us that we should always seek refuge in Allah's words when faced with danger or difficulty, for His protection is greater than any other form of protection we may seek out.
