Sunan Abi Dawud 3906 (Book 30, Hadith 3) #24196
The Power of Faith

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the power of faith and how it can be seen in the way one speaks.

Narrated Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani: The Messenger of Allah led us in the morning prayer at al-Hudaibiyyah after rain which has fallen during the night, and when he finished, he turned to the people and said: Do you know what your Lord has said ? They said: Allah and His Apostle know best. He said: This morning there were among mt servants one who believes in me and one who disbelieves. The one who said: "We have been given rain by Allah's grace and mercy" is the one who believes in me and disbelieves in the star ; but the one who said: "We have been given rain by such and such a rain star," is the one who disbelieves in me and believes in the star.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the power of faith and how it can be seen in our words. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was leading a prayer when he asked his followers if they knew what Allah had said. When they replied that only Allah and His Messenger knew best, he told them a story about two people who were among his servants that morning. One person believed in Allah and His Messenger while the other did not. When it started to rain, the one who believed said “We have been given rain by Allah’s grace and mercy” while the other said “We have been given rain by such and such a star”. From this story we learn that our words reflect our beliefs; those who believe in God will give Him credit for all good things while those who do not will attribute them to something else. We should always remember to thank God for all blessings He has bestowed upon us!
