EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the consequences of lying and how it affects one's relationship with Allah. It is narrated by Ibn 'Umar and ‘Abdur-Rahim bin Harun that the Messenger of Allah said that when a slave lies, an angel goes a mile away from him because of the stench of what he has done. This implies that lying is not only wrong but also displeasing to Allah as it causes a distance between Him and His slave. It teaches us to be honest in our words so we can maintain our connection with Him.
