The Importance of Marriage in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade celibacy and encouraged marriage.

It was narrated from Samurah that: the Messenger of Allah forbade celibacy. Zaid bin Akhzam added: "And Qatadah recited: 'And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad ), and made for them wives and offspring'."
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ آدَمَ، وَزَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ، ‏.‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ نَهَى عَنِ التَّبَتُّلِ ‏.‏ زَادَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ وَقَرَأَ قَتَادَةُ ‏{وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلاً مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً}‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of marriage in Islam. It was narrated from Samurah that the Messenger of Allah forbade celibacy. This is because marriage is a way to fulfill one's desires in a halal manner and it also helps to create strong family ties between two families. Additionally, Zaid bin Akhzam added that Qatadah recited a verse from the Quran which states that Allah sent messengers before Prophet Muhammad who were married with wives and offspring. This further emphasizes on the importance of marriage as it was practiced by prophets before us as well.
