SUMMARY: The wedding feast on the first day is obligatory, on the second day is a custom and on the third day is showing off.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah said: 'The wedding feast on the first day is an obligation, on the second day is a custom and on the third day is showing off".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have a wedding feast on first two days according to Islamic teachings
EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith, it is an obligation for Muslims to have a wedding feast on the first day of marriage. This means that it should be done as part of fulfilling one's religious duties. On the second day, it is a custom or Sunnah to have another wedding feast and this can be done if one wishes to do so. On the third day, having a wedding feast would be considered as showing off or Riyaa which goes against Islamic teachings. Therefore, Muslims should avoid doing so and instead focus their attention towards other acts of worship such as prayer and charity work.
