Sunan Ibn Majah 1948 (Book 9, Hadith 104) #31300
Permissibility of Allowing Paternal Uncles Who Were Breastfed By the Same Woman

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) taught that it is permissible to allow a paternal uncle who was breastfed by the same woman as oneself into one's home, even if the man did not breastfeed them.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "My paternal uncle through breastfeeding, Aflah bin Abu Qu'ais, came and asked permission to visit me, after the ruling on veiling had been enjoined, and I refused to let him in, until the Prophet came in and said: 'He is your paternal uncle; let him in'. I said: 'But it is the woman who breastfed me; the man did not breastfeed me'. He said: 'May your hands be rubbed with dust', or: 'May your right hand be rubbed with dust!"

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness and respect towards relatives regardless of their distance from you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the permissibility of allowing a paternal uncle who was breastfed by the same woman as oneself into one's home, even if the man did not breastfeed them. This is because breastfeeding creates a bond between two people and makes them family in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed his compassion and mercy when he allowed 'Aishah's paternal uncle to enter her house despite her initial refusal due to him not being her direct milk-brother. He also showed his love for 'Aishah when he said "May your hands be rubbed with dust" or "May your right hand be rubbed with dust!" which is an expression of endearment in Arabic culture. We can learn from this hadith that we should show kindness and respect towards our relatives, no matter how distant they may seem, as they are still part of our family in Islam.
