Sunan Ibn Majah 1981 (Book 9, Hadith 137) #31333
Defending Oneself with Dignity

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how Aisha defended herself against Zainab's accusation and the Prophet's face shone in response.

Urwah bin Zubair narrated that 'Aishah said: "I did not know until Zainab burst in on me without permission and she was angry. Then she said: 'O Messenger of Allah, is it enough for you that the young daughter of Abu Bakr waves her hands in front of you?' Then she turned to me, but I ignored her until the Prophet said: 'You should say something to defend yourself'. So I turned on her, (and replied to her) until I saw that her mouth had become dry, and she did not say anything back to me. And I saw the Prophet with his face shining". (Hasan).

QUICK LESSONS:
Defend yourself without resorting to anger or disrespect
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of defending oneself with dignity and respect. It tells us that when Aisha was accused by Zainab, she did not respond in anger or disrespect, but instead calmly defended herself until Zainab was silenced. The Prophet then showed his approval by smiling at her. This teaches us that we should always strive to defend ourselves without resorting to anger or disrespect, as this will be more effective than responding in a negative way. We should also remember that our actions are being watched and judged by others, so it is important to act with dignity even when faced with difficult situations.
