Sunan Ibn Majah 2003 (Book 9, Hadith 159) #31355
Hereditary Skin Color

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a man from the desert people who came to the Prophet and asked him about his son's black skin color. The Prophet asked him if he had camels, and when he said yes, the Prophet asked what color they were. He said red, but then mentioned there were some grey ones among them. The Prophet then explained that this could be hereditary and that it was likely the same for his son's skin color.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that: a man frorn the desert people came to the Prophet and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my wife has given birth on my bed to a black boy, and there are no black people among my family". He said: "Do you have camels?" He said: "Yes". He said: "What color are they?" He said: "Red". He said: are there any black ones among them?" He said, "No". He said: "Are there any grey ones among them?" He said- "Yes". He said "How is that?" He said: "Perhaps it is hereditary". He said: "Perhaps (the color of) this son of yours is also hereditary".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man from the desert people who came to ask the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about his son's black skin color. The man was worried because none of his family members had black skin before. In response, the prophet ﷺ asked him if he owned any camels and what colors they were. When he replied that some of them were red while others were grey, the prophet ﷺ explained that this could be hereditary - just like how different colors of camels can be passed down through generations in families - so it was likely that his son's black skin was also hereditary in nature. This teaches us an important lesson on heterogeneity - which means differences between things or people - as well as inheritance - which means passing down traits from parents to their children through genes or other factors such as culture or environment.
