The Month of Twenty-Nine Days

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) swore to keep away from some of his wives for a month, and on the twenty-ninth day it was said that only twenty-nine days had passed. He replied that the month is indeed twenty-nine days.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that: the Messenger of Allah swore to keep away from some of his wives for a month. On the twenty-ninth day, in the evening or the morning, it was said: "O Messenger of Allah, only twenty-nine days have passed". He said: "The month is twenty-nine days".

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your word and fulfill your promises no matter how small they may be.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of keeping one's word and promises. It was narrated by Umm Salamah that the Prophet Muhammad swore to keep away from some of his wives for a month, but on the twenty-ninth day it was said that only twenty nine days had passed. He replied that even though only 29 days have passed, he still kept his promise as he promised to stay away for a full month which is 29 days long. This teaches us an important lesson in keeping our promises no matter how small they may be and not breaking them even if we are tempted to do so. We should also remember this when making any kind of promise or commitment as we should always strive to fulfill them no matter what happens or how difficult it may be at times.
