Be careful about your actions & words; Think twice before making decisions; Take responsibility for one's actions & words; Offer expiations if necessary .

This hadith is about a man who declared zihar upon his wife, which is when a husband compares his wife to his mother or sister in order to make them unlawful for him. In this case, the man saw his wife's ankles in the moonlight and could not control himself so he had intercourse with her before offering expiation. When he went to the Prophet, he asked him what made him do that and smiled at him when hearing the answer. The Prophet then told him not to go near her until he had offered expiation as a consequence of what happened. This teaches us that we should be careful about our actions and words because they can have consequences that we may regret later on. We should also think twice before making decisions as they can have serious implications on our lives and those around us.
