QUICK LESSONS:
Take your commitments seriously

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of taking an oath seriously and with reverence. It was narrated that Rifa'ah Al-Juhani said that when the Prophet Muhammad took an oath, he would say "By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad". This shows us how important it was for him to take his oath seriously and with respect. He wanted to make sure that he was swearing by something greater than himself, so he chose to swear by God, who holds his own soul in His hand. By doing this, it showed how much respect and reverence he had for God's power over him and all things. This teaches us a valuable lesson about taking our own oaths seriously as well - we should always remember that we are swearing by something greater than ourselves, and should take our words very seriously when making such a commitment.
