The Consequences of False Oaths

SUMMARY: Swearing a false oath is a sin and will lead to punishment in Hell.

Muhammad bin Yahya, who is Abu Yunus Al-Qawi, said: I heard Abu Salamah say: I heard Abu Hurairah say: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'No man or woman swears a false oath beside this pulpit, even if it is for a fresh twig, but he will be doomed to Hell".

QUICK LESSONS:
Speak truthfully no matter what the situation may be.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us about the consequences of swearing a false oath. It is narrated by Muhammad bin Yahya Abu Yunus Al-Qawi who heard it from Abu Salamah who in turn heard it from the Prophet's companion, Abu Huraira. According to this hadith, if someone swears an untrue oath even for something as small as a twig they will be doomed to hellfire. This teaches us that we should always be truthful and honest in our words and actions because Allah knows all that we do and say and He will not let any injustice go unpunished. We should also remember that lying or taking an oath falsely can have serious consequences both in this world and the hereafter so it is important for us to always speak truthfully no matter what the situation may be.
