The Reward of Performing Tawaf and Praying Two Rak’ah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that performing Tawaf and praying two Rak’ah is equivalent to freeing a slave.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Whoever performs Tawaf around the House and prays two Rak’ah, it is as if he freed a slave.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform tawaaif around Kaaba and pray 2 raka'atein

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abdullah bin Umar, tells us about the reward of performing Tawaf and praying two Rak’ah. Tawaf is the ritual of walking around the Kaaba seven times in an anti-clockwise direction. It is a part of Hajj, which is one of the five pillars of Islam. Praying two Rak’ah means offering two units or cycles of prayer which consists of standing, bowing down, prostrating and sitting in between each cycle. According to this hadith, if someone performs these acts then it will be as if they have freed a slave. This shows us how important it is for Muslims to perform these acts as they are rewarded greatly for them even though they may not have freed any slaves themselves.
